Timing shims set unit pump height in a Stanadyne Integrated Fuel System (IFS), and shim thickness is what puts injection timing where the calibration calls for it. Shims are selected at assembly, not chosen by preference. Stanadyne part number 36009, from the company that builds the pumps these components go into.
