Rotating Assembly
The rotating assembly is the heart of the engine's bottom end: the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons and bearings that turn combustion pressure into torque. On a diesel, these parts carry huge loads, and they are where a rebuild or a high-horsepower build starts.
Shop pistons and rings from Mahle, D&W and Industrial Injection, main and rod bearings from King and Clevite, connecting rods from Carrillo and others, crankshafts, and main studs and rod bolts from ARP. Parts are available for Cummins, Duramax and Power Stroke engines as well as heavy-duty and industrial diesels.
When rebuilding, have the block and crank measured by a machine shop before ordering bearings, since you may need undersize parts. If you are building for more power, stronger rods and main studs are often the first priority, and a balanced rotating assembly will run smoother and last longer. Use fresh assembly lube and the correct break-in procedure when the engine first fires.
