Harmonic Balancers

A harmonic balancer, also called a damper, controls crankshaft vibration. Every combustion event twists the crankshaft slightly, and at certain RPMs those twists can build up and damage the crank, bearings and timing parts. Diesels, with their high cylinder pressure, are especially hard on balancers, and added power makes it worse.

This collection includes Fluidampr viscous dampers for Cummins and Power Stroke engines, which use a fluid-filled design that controls vibration across a wider RPM range than a factory rubber damper. We also carry ARP balancer bolt kits for Cummins, Duramax and Power Stroke engines, damper relocation brackets from Carli, and related parts from PPE.

Signs of a failing damper include a wobbling pulley, a cracked or separating rubber ring, and unexplained vibration at certain speeds. On a modified diesel, a performance damper is good insurance for the crank. Always use a new balancer bolt when installing a damper, and torque it to spec.
