The lift pump moves fuel from the tank to the high-pressure injection pump. Many factory lift pumps on diesel trucks are weak or fail with age, and low supply pressure starves the injection pump, which can cause hard starts, power loss and an early pump failure. A healthy lift pump is one of the best ways to protect an expensive fuel system.
