Crankcase Ventilation & Catch Cans

A diesel's crankcase ventilation (CCV) system vents blow-by gases from the crankcase. On many trucks, those gases are routed back into the intake, carrying oil mist with them, which coats the intake, intercooler and turbo with oily residue over time. Crankcase ventilation upgrades and catch cans help manage that oil before it causes problems.

A catch can keeps the system closed while separating out oil, which is a good fit for most street trucks. Check and empty your catch can regularly, especially in cold weather, when condensation can build up quickly. Check the drain more often on trucks that tow or run hard.
