The Bosch VP30 is the electronically controlled distributor injection pump fitted to Cummins 5.9L ISB and QSB engines running a 12-volt electrical system. A single axial piston in the distributor head generates injection pressure, while a pump-mounted control unit meters fuel and sets injection timing through solenoid valves, working from a speed and position sensor on the pump driveshaft. That electronic control is what separates the VP30 from the mechanical VE pump it replaced, and the single-piston head is what separates it from the radial-piston VP44.
Cummins 5.9L ISB and QSB engines run in medium-duty trucks, school buses, motorhomes, and industrial and agricultural equipment. This pump is remanufactured by Alliant Power to OEM specifications and tolerances and ships with the seals needed for installation.
The 12-Volt designation refers to the electrical system, not to the 12-valve 5.9L. ISB and QSB engines built with 24-volt systems take a different VP30, so check the tag on the pump you are removing before ordering.
Before You Install
Inspect the pump drive gear and replace it if it is not the latest style. An outdated gear can cause pump drive shaft failure. Drive gear 4932713 and front cover seal with dust shield 3804899 are sold separately.
