Machining and Installation

• Machine both head and block for flatness; this matters increasingly above 800 HP
• Under 800 HP the groove can be cut in the head only
• Above 800 HP, ARP 625 studs are recommended
• Always use a .120 inch radiused cutter for a consistent groove profile
• Head studs are required to achieve proper clamp load; lubricate nuts, washers and threads for even torque
• Torque to 130 ft-lbs before first startup, then hot retorque once at operating temperature
• Gasket compression changes valve lash, so set lash after the final retorque
• Never exceed the fastener manufacturer's torque limits
