Key Features
- PC479 is a hardened high strength nodular iron. The extra hardening process lets the ring run against most bore surfaces without an additional face coating, which is why MAHLE uses it in power adder applications that exceed what a conventional face-coated ring will tolerate.
- The Napier tapered hook groove profile scrapes oil from the cylinder wall on the downstroke and rides on an oil film on the upstroke. It also acts as a check valve, relieving combustion pressure that builds under the top ring and helping keep that ring stable.
- The pressure-backed dykes profile uses a step cut on the top side to take advantage of gas loading. MAHLE offers it primarily for drag racing.
