The HBX-1 is a precision machined heat-sink bung extender for applications that run the wideband O2 sensor too hot. Bosch LSU 4.2 and LSU 4.9 sensors are rated for exhaust gas temperature below 1,700 degrees F and a sensor housing temperature below 1,058 degrees F measured at the hex; above that the sensor can no longer be controlled accurately and Innovate devices report a sensor timing error rather than display a wrong reading. The HBX-1 uses a heat sink design to pull the sensor further out of the exhaust stream while still routing exhaust gas across it for an accurate reading.
