Holset 5579127H New VGT Electronic Turbocharger Actuator. Application: 2013-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins. On Holset variable geometry chargers the electronic actuator drives the sliding nozzle ring through a gear train and talks to the ECM over CAN, so it controls both boost and exhaust brake function. The actuator is a known wear point: internal motor, gear or position-sensor failure typically sets VGT position codes and kills exhaust brake performance while the vanes themselves remain serviceable. This actuator must be calibrated to the turbocharger after installation using Cummins INSITE, Holset E-Tool or an equivalent capable scan tool; skipping calibration will cause fault codes and can damage the actuator or turbo. Holset has been the original-equipment turbocharger supplier to Cummins and other heavy-duty diesel manufacturers since the 1950s, and genuine Holset units are built to the same drawing, materials and balance specification as the turbocharger the engine left the factory with.
