Modern diesel oils have had their anti-wear additive packages reduced, which is a problem for flat tappet camshafts where the lobe and lifter face rely on a sacrificial ZDDP film. This additive raises zinc and phosphorus to roughly 1,500-1,650 ppm, the range Hamilton Cams targets for flat tappet protection.
