The thicker of Hamilton's two 12-valve fire ring gaskets at .080 inch, with .105 inch wire at a 4.560 inch outside diameter. Beyond sealing a high-boost engine, the extra .010 inch over the standard gasket is the usual way to recover piston-to-valve clearance when a performance camshaft does not quite drop in.
Key Features
- .080 inch (1.8mm) gasket thickness
- 4.560 inch wire outside diameter, .105 inch wire
- Groove specification: .016-.017 inch depth in the cylinder head with a .120 inch radius cutter
- Added thickness helps regain piston-to-valve clearance on camshaft installs
Fitment
- 1989-1998 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 5.9L Cummins 12-valve
Machining and Installation
- Machine both head and block for flatness, particularly above 800 HP
- Under 800 HP the groove can be cut in the cylinder head only
- Above 800 HP use high tensile ARP 625 fasteners
- Always use a radiused cutter for accurate groove formation and wire contact
- Head studs are required; lubricate nut, washer and threads for even clamp load
- Torque to 130 ft-lbs before first startup, then hot retorque at operating temperature
- Each retorque compresses the gasket further and reduces valve lash, so set lash last
- Never exceed the fastener manufacturer's torque limits
