The actuator is a known wear point: internal motor, gear or position-sensor failure typically sets VGT position codes and kills exhaust brake performance while the vanes themselves remain serviceable. This actuator must be calibrated to the turbocharger after installation using Cummins INSITE, Holset E-Tool or an equivalent capable scan tool; skipping calibration will cause fault codes and can damage the actuator or turbo.
